National Friends of Library Week
Public Proclamation
Whereas,
The Library Friends of Payson, Inc., raises money that enables
our Library to move from good to great – providing the resources for
additional programming, much needed equipment, support for programs
such as the Summer Reading Program, and special events throughout the
year;
Whereas,
the work of the Friends highlights, on an ongoing basis, the fact that
our Library is the cornerstone of the community, providing
opportunities for all to engage in the joy of life-long learning and
to connect with the thoughts and ideas of others from ages past to the
present;
Whereas,
the Friends understand the critical importance of well-funded
Libraries and serves as advocate to ensure that our Library gets the
resources it needs to provide a wide variety of services including
access to print and electronic materials, along with expert assistance
in research, readers’ advisory, and special services to children,
young adults, and adults;
Whereas,
the Friends provide free Homebound Library Services, delivering
books and other circulation items to homebound citizens, allowing them
to reap the many benefits of our Library services;
Whereas,
the Friends provide free mentoring to local youth offenders in
conjunction with the Juvenile Court System, allowing them to ‘Read’
their way out of probation and assist in the journey to becoming
productive and responsible members of society;
Whereas,
the Friends’ gift of their time and commitment to the Library sets the
highest example for all in how volunteerism leads to positive civic
engagement and the betterment of our community;
Now, therefore be it resolved
that the Town of Payson proclaims October 18-24, 2009, as
Friends of Libraries Week in Payson, Arizona and urges
everyone to join the Library Friends of Payson, Inc., and thank them
for all they do to make our Library and community a place of
excellence.
