The Library Friends of Payson, Inc

MISSION:  The Library Friends of Payson, Inc., is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide financial and community support to the Payson Public Library. We believe that public libraries comprise an integral aspect of community identity and development, and we support endeavors that encourage literacy and free inquiry within the individual, the family, and society.

HISTORY:  Like many of Rim Country's finest service organizations, "The Library Friends" were established as a 'grassroots' effort to support the growing Payson Public Library.

We have evolved from just providing books -- to purchasing computers and other equipment & funding Public Library programs that would not otherwise be covered in its Town and County budget.

SERVICES WE PROVIDE: We offer a Free Library Services for Homebound Individuals - through our "Library Buddy Program." We also purchase books and supplies for Payson Public Library.

PROJECTS WE SPONSOR:  We are an Annual Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce Business  Showcase participant.

We maintain the LFOP bookstore (a used bookstore in the Payson Public Library). Staffing is done entirely by volunteers.

The Payson Library is having a party and you are invited, so mark your calendar now!  The Library Friends of Payson will be hosting its annual library fundraiser, “A Taste of Rim Country,” on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 from 5pm until 7:30p.  If you haven’t been to this event in the past, you have truly missed out on a wonderful evening.  Local area chefs are invited to demonstrate their creative culinary skills as they vie for the coveted “Best of the Best” award, with awards also given for the “Best Savory” and the “Best Dessert.”  Guests enjoy complimentary wine-tasting and other non-alcoholic beverages.  A “50-50” cash raffle is a fun part of the evening.  And a Silent Auction is also held with donations of fine art, jewelry, vintage items, books, and much, much more.

Both business and individual Sponsors are encouraged to support the Payson Library with monetary donations.  There are three levels:  “Gold” for a $500 donation, “Silver” for a $250 donation, and “Bronze” for a $100 donation.  All sponsors receive two complimentary tickets (a $70 value), and recognition through postings within the Library, as well as on Facebook and in the “Among Friends” newsletter.

Tickets are $35 per person ($20 is tax-deductible), and are available at the Payson Library.  Tickets must be purchased in advance of the event, as tickets are not sold at the door on the day of the event.  Payment can be either cash or check (no credit cards, please).

All proceeds benefit the general fund of the Library Friends of Payson which supports programs and supplies not included in the Payson Library’s regular budget.

On Monday, February 19, at the Library Friends general meeting, Louie Juers will share information on AZ State Parks. Arizona has 35 parks around the state! How many have you visited? The parks have special programs for people of all ages and abilities.  AZ Family Campouts is a unique program developed to introduce families to camping; state parks provide most of the camping equipment and all the activities.  Many campers love the program so much that they return year after year.

Louie Juers is a Ranger II Specialist and has coordinated the AZ Family Campout since its inception. He taught in Minnesota and Arizona before joining AZ State Parks and Trails. Louie has traveled the state for six years, sharing his passion for educating children and families on how to safely recreate in our state parks. Some children who have participated in the camp out program will share their excitement for the program.

The Library Friends of Payson presentation for the community, which is held in the library meeting room, will start with a short business meeting at 10 a.m. and the program begins at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to both the business meeting and the free one-hour program. Note that the library will be closed on February 19 for President’s Day; the side door leading to the meeting room will be open. Schools will also be closed on President’s Day; we extend a special invitation to families for this program.  If you have any questions, please call the library at 928-474-9260.

Library Friends of Payson, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, supports the library with programs and materials not covered by the town budget.  Come and join us.
