The Library Friends of Payson, Inc

MISSION:  The Library Friends of Payson, Inc., is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide financial and community support to the Payson Public Library. We believe that public libraries comprise an integral aspect of community identity and development, and we support endeavors that encourage literacy and free inquiry within the individual, the family, and society.

HISTORY:  Like many of Rim Country's finest service organizations, "The Library Friends" were established as a 'grassroots' effort to support the growing Payson Public Library.

We have evolved from just providing books -- to purchasing computers and other equipment & funding Public Library programs that would not otherwise be covered in its Town and County budget.

SERVICES WE PROVIDE: We offer a Free Library Services for Homebound Individuals - through our "Library Buddy Program." We also purchase books and supplies for Payson Public Library.

PROJECTS WE SPONSOR:  We are an Annual Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce Business  Showcase participant.

We maintain the LFOP bookstore (a used bookstore in the Payson Public Library). Staffing is done entirely by volunteers.

Library Friends of Payson presentation for the community November 16, 2015

The Library Friends of Payson welcomes Stan Garner, who will present a fascinating and humorous program entitled “Hollywood Rides the Rails in Arizona”  on Monday, November 16. His talk includes a video slide presentation on filming with trains for two films shot in Arizona. Mr. Garner has 48 years of experience in the restoration, maintenance and operation of trains, and he was actively involved in the motion picture industry. Presently, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Railway Museum in Chandler, AZ.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, this program replaces Neil Morrison’s presentation on Christmas traditions, which was scheduled for November 16.

The Library Friends of Payson presentation for the community, which is held in the library meeting room, will start with a short business meeting at 10:00 a.m.; the program begins at 10:30 a.m.

The public is invited to both the business meeting and the free one hour program. If you have any questions, please call the library at 928-474-9260.

A Taste of Rim Country

Save the Date for ‘A Taste of Rim Country’

Mark your 2016 calendar now for our annual fundraiser, ‘A Taste of Rim Country’, set for Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Payson Public Library. Guests can wander our stacks and sample appetizers and/or desserts from area restaurants, chefs, and caterers, and vote for their favorites.

Our organizing committee, chaired by Board Member Kathy Morgan, is already hard at work in the initial planning stages for this popular event.

We’re hosting a complimentary wine-tasting table, 50-50 raffle, and silent auction. Local DJ Fred Carpenter has once again agreed to serve as Master of Ceremonies and to provide music. Proceeds from the event will benefit our General Fund, which supports Library programs and supplies not included in its regular budget.

Tickets will be available in early 2016 at the Payson Public Library. Only a limited number will be sold, and there will be not sales at the door.

Watch for continual updates.
