MISSION:  The Library Friends of Payson, Inc., is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide financial and community support to the Payson Public Library. We believe that public libraries comprise an integral aspect of community identity and development, and we support endeavors that encourage literacy and free inquiry within the individual, the family, and society.

HISTORY:  Like many of Rim Country's finest service organizations, "The Library Friends" were established as a 'grassroots' effort to support the growing Payson Public Library.

We have evolved from just providing books -- to purchasing computers and other equipment & funding Public Library programs that would not otherwise be covered in its Town and County budget.

SERVICES WE PROVIDE: We offer a Free Library Services for Homebound Individuals - through our "Library Buddy Program." We also purchase books and supplies for Payson Public Library.

PROJECTS WE SPONSOR:  We are an Annual Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase participant.

We maintain the LFOP bookstore (a used bookstore in the Payson Public Library). Staffing is done entirely by volunteers.

Marguerite Noble and Rim Country Pioneer Life

Rim Country pioneer stories and the life of Marguerite Noble (1910-2007) will be featured at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 17, in the Payson Public Library meeting room.

This free and open to the public event is hosted by the Library Friends of Payson. Speaker Lita Nicholson will present a video program produced by the Northern Gila Country Historical Society that includes pioneer tales told in the voice of Marguerite Noble.

Local historic photographs are embedded in the program as well. Noble was born in the town of Roosevelt and wrote Filaree, now considered a classic novel about American pioneer life set in turn-of-the-century Gila County. Noble was a charter member of the Northern Gila County Historical Society and received many honors, including the Sharlot Hall Award from the Sharlot Hall Museum, the Al Merita Award from the Arizona Historical Society and was selected as one of Arizona's first Culturekeepers.

Please plan to join us at 10 a.m. to enjoy light refreshments and learn about current and upcoming library events. The Marguerite Noble presentation will immediately follow. For further information please contact the library at (928) 474-9260.

During June the Library Friends of Payson Bookstore will be featuring a 2 for the price of one special on all hardback books. Stop by and stock up on your father’s favorite author. This is a great opportunity to purchase a Father’s Day gift that is sure to please Dad. While you’re there pick up a favorite VCR tape for 50 cents or browse the bargain table in the lobby. All bargain table items will be on sale for 25 cents.

Every penny spent in the Library Friends of Payson Bookstore is reinvested in the Payson Library to support the purchase of new material and many special programs. Therefore, Bookstore customers not only benefit from one of the best values to be found in Payson, they also support an important civic institution. Bookstore stock changes daily, so the wise shopper visits frequently. The Bookstore is located to the right of the circulation desk just inside the Payson Public Library, 328 N.
McLane Road.
